JV Intersquad Scrimmage

The JV team looked really crisp in the intersquad scrimmage today. First team offense and defense both played well in the rain. Maybe they were fired up by the cooler temps and finally getting the pads on.

The addition of some players who have been working out with varsity has helped and will continue to help throughout the season to provide depth we were sorely lacking in the spring. I have also heard rumors that some players on varsity will continue working out with them but will play games on JV...

Having watched all the spring scrimmages I was quite impressed with the improvement shown today. This team seems to run the wing formation very well and I bet we will see a lot of that this season. The plays today were heavily weighted to the run, which is understandable at this point of the season and the weather made passing difficult, but I hope the offense will be more balanced than last year. I believe last year the team would have benefited from an expanded short to medium passing game...it seemed to me that it was often run or bomb.

I'm very much looking forward to the scrimmage next week with Mansfield Summit as it will be a good indication of where we stand. But after watching the boys today, I think many of the teams we play are going to run into a buzz saw...and, unfortunately for them, we hone the blade against Summit.
